Glucosamine Sulfate is an amino sugar that is critical to the integrity of joint tissues. It is a primary constituent of proteoglycans, which is used by the body to form articular cartilage. Its main action is to stimulate the synthesis of cartilage components (such as glycosaminoglycans, proteoglycans, collagens, proteins, RNA, and DNA) so that joints can be repaired. Further, Glucosamine Sulfate has been shown to exert a protective effect against joint degradation, and to enhance the synthesis of hyaluronan (the substance that gives the joint fluid its thick viscosity, providing lubrication between the synovial membrane and cartilage).
Our Sodium-free Glucosamine Sulfate, is stabilized with Potassium Chloride rather than Sodium Chloride so as to not contribute to hypertension. We list net Glucosamine Sulfate, not gross. Several manufacturers say they have 500 mg Glucosamine Sulfate in their capsule when if fact they have 500 mg of the entire Glucosamine Sulfate/Potassium Chloride compound, yielding only 350-400 mg net GS. Three capsules per day deliver 1,500 mg Glucosamine Sulfate (net).
Numerous double-blind studies have shown that Glucosamine Sulfate is able to relieve the pain and inflammation caused by Osteo-and Rheumatoid Arthritis. In fact, it does this as well as or better than ibuprofen-type drugs. Since Glucosamine Sulfate is a natural substance, there are none of the harmful side effects that are common to most pharmaceutical painkillers.
